Virginia S. Woodall

CLINTON- Virginia S. Woodall, age 94, of Clinton, passed away at BroMenn Regional Medical Center, Normal at 2:47 a.m. on Sept. 6, 2008.

Graveside services will be held at 1:30 p.m. on Tuesday at Highland Park Cemetery, Mayfield, Ky. Her daughter, Mitchi Tucker and family will officiate. A visitation was held from 6 to 8 p.m. on Monday, Sept. 8, 2008 at Calvert Funeral Home, Clinton.

Virginia S. was born in Mayfield, Ky. on Dec. 3, 1913 a daughter of William Bowd Sullivan and Mary Mitchi “Molly” Sanderson Sullivan. She married her college sweetheart Vaughn Chennault Woodall on Nov. 20, 1936 in Paducah, Ky. Vaughn passed away Aug. 13, 1987.

Survivors include: one daughter, Mary Mitchi Tucker and son-in-law, Darrel G. of Clinton, Ill.; two granddaughters, Beth (John) Hartness of El Paso, Ill. and Carrie Virginia “Ginny II” Phillips of Normal, Ill.; five great-grandchildren, Hannah, Jordan and Marc Hartness, Isaac and Alyssa Phillips. Numerous nieces and nephews also survive.

Her parents, brothers and sisters preceded her in death.

She graduated from Murray State University and was a devoted Elementary Teacher for over 35 years teaching in Virginia, Kentucky and Illinois. She enjoyed her word search puzzles, cross stitching, and watching Walker Texas Ranger.

She loved flowers and birds. Special friends Karen and Chris Clausen, Kim Easton, Merline Hartness and Tammy Chapman.

Virginia was a member of the First Baptist Church, Clinton; Murry State Alumni Assoc. and retired teachers association. She was a woman of great faith and an inspiration to all who knew her. She touched everyone with her gentle, kind and generous spirit. She never knew a stranger and loved her family. She enjoyed watching her great-grandchildren and family at get-togethers. She was a gracious lady even during her brief illeness and hospital stay. She lived independently for the last 21 years.

Memorials may be directed to the Cardiac Care Unit at BroMenn Regional Medical Center, Normal.
