CLINTON—Cheryl Lietz, executive director of the DeWitt County Human Resource Center announced her resignation this week. She will take another job, based in Pekin.
Her last day as HRC director will be July 30; Debbi Logan has been appointed by the HRC board of directors as interim executive director and Helen Michelassi has been appointed interim associate director. Lietz, in a phone interview on Tuesday, said the board had met once to receive the resignation and to make the temporary appointments, but a plan for seeking a new director was not determined. The board will meet again Wednesday, Lietz said.
She will begin a new position on Aug. 2 as administrator of Bond Eye Associates of Pekin, which has offices in Pekin, Peoria, Bloomington and Canton. She and her husband, Larry McGuire, who is retired from State Farm, have put their home in Clinton up for sale and she already has rented an apartment closer to her new job.
Lietz said she isn’t leaving because of the budget shortfalls she has had to contend with for a couple of years now. But, state budget cuts, and more are expected and have decimated mental health programs statewide, as well as other programs the HRC has in place, leaving her to manage program cut-backs as compassionately as anyone could possibly muster.
“Actually I was not looking for a job,” she said. Before her dozen years at HRC, she worked at Gailey Eye Clinic, Bloomington. Someone who knew that recommended Lietz and she was recruited “I was asked to interview for the position, said Lietz.
