CHICAGO — High Definition video technology is “changing at a breakneck speed,” says Clinton native Craig Maltby. It’s something Maltby would be keenly aware, since his Bridgeport, Ill. business Magnanimous Media depends on knowing about videography trends.
Maltby moved to Chicago in 2002 after graduating from Full Sail University’s Winter Park, Fla. campus. Full Sail’s film program is one of the more high profile among media colleges.
He started Magnanimous Media from his apartment about a year and a half ago but has since moved into a storefront in Bridgeport, a Chicago area community, with his partners Sean Patrick and Jonah Rubash. They incorporated the business in January 2010.
Maltby was roommates with Patrick at Winter Park, and the two became friends. Rubash joined the business later as its creative director.
Magnanimous Media rents HD video equipment to a variety of clients, which have included NBC and MTV but also student filmmakers and wedding videographers. Professional HD video equipment is expensive, so going into the rental business also made it more convenient for Maltby and his partners to have available equipment for their own production projects. Maltby has also gotten into producing Web video for businesses and corporations.
Magnanimous Media in January was featured on reelchicago.com. The story covers upgrades the business is making to its avaiable rental equipment.
Maltby is the son of Mike and Shelley Maltby, of Clinton, and the grandson of Robert and Janice Maltby.
