More design changes recommended for new grade school

CLINTON — Clinton Unit School District board members made suggestions for changes to the design of the new grade school presented by representatives from Cordogan Clark and Associates, during Tuesday night’s school board meeting.

The plans presented included angling a portion of the building to create more gathering space and improved traffic flow in areas of higher congestion. Board members asked the architects to realign the angled portion of the design as well as make suggestions for improving the outside appearance.

“I’d much rather have classrooms than extra courtyard space,” said board president Buck Carter.

“We’re building this for the future and we should build it correctly,” added board member Mark Haas.

Architect Kirk Albinson of Cordogan Clark and Associates told the board that geotechnical engineers are reviewing the option raising the elevation of the site to stablize the foundation. “We’re trying to focus on the least cost option,” he said. “It’s a delicate balancing act. If costs come in higher then we’re going to have to make some tough decisions (in order to stay within budget).”

“Do it right from the start,” suggested board member Tom Pruser.
