CLINTON — About 60 people attended a ceremony Friday to break ground for the new Richland Community College satellite campus building near Clinton Junior High School. The 10,000 square-foot facility is scheduled to open for the fall 2013 semester.

RCC president Gayle Saunders, DeWitt County Development Council director Ruth Stauffer, Clinton mayor Carolyn Peters, Unit 15 Schools superintendent Dr. Jeff Holmes, Rep. Bill Mitchell, Ill. Sen. Chapin Rose, U.S. Rep. Rodney Davis and RCC board of trustees president Dale Colee were among the speakers at the event, held near the end of Jake Drive, between the junior high and high schools.

“Today’s groundbreaking is another step toward advancing the mission of Richland by serving the citizens of DeWitt County …with accessible, quality higher education,” said RCC president Gayle Saunders. Saunders said the college looked forward to continuing its relationship with Clinton and with serving Clinton High School students.

“It seems very and appropriate that the college builds on the very successful 35-year relationship that we’ve had with the Clinton area,” said Doug Brower, RCC economic development. “I’m proud to say that this new facility reflects the academic and occupational strides Richland Community College has made and is making.”
