City council passes agreement for online bill pay

Posted: Friday, Jan 25th, 2013

CLINTON The Clinton City Council passed agreements Tuesday with Merrick Bank and Mediacom Cable as part of it plan to offer online bill payment to residents. The action came during the rescheduled holiday meeting.

Residents will be able to logon to the city Web site, view their accounts in real time and pay their bills online.

The city plans a three-year agreement with Mediacom for the service at a cost of $69 a month.

City treasurer Clinton Lichtenwalter said during the January 7 council meeting that the only other element to consider was whether the city would pass the convenience fee on to the customers or absorb the cost of the fee without charging residents. Lichtenwalter, finance commissioner Tom Edmunds and public property commission John Wise had discussed how to handle the fee, Lichtenwalter said.
