CLINTON — The Clinton City Council voted Monday to contract with Good Energy as the city’s electricity purchaser. The contract would hinge on voters passing an April referendum to approve electric aggregation.
Electric aggregation involves a third party that purchases power for residents through an annual auction. In Clinton, the third party agent would purchase electricity for Ameren customers, who would still be served by Ameren as their electric utility provider. The DeWitt County board voted earlier this year to place a referendum on the April 9 ballot offering voters the opportunity to aggregate their electric supply.
Good Energy, one of the two companies to make presentations to the county, is a broker.
