WAPELLA — Near the close of Tuesday’s Wapella Village Board meeting, a trustee suddenly began a tirade against other trustees that continued even after the board president adjourned the meeting.
Sharon Riddle was expressing her confusion about figures contained in the monthly treasurer’s report. She disputed the order in which figures were entered for two separate months of the report.
“That is not correct,” Riddle said.
“Yes, it is,” responded village treasurer Jane Buraglio. “You can’t say that something is there in August, when it’s not, or in July, when it’s not.”
“I’m saying, maybe we need an audit of this,” Riddle said. “Because, obviously it’s not been done correct.”
At this point, Riddle appeared to respond to a resident seated in the audience.
“Well, that’s just tough t--ty, buddy,” Riddle said.
Board president Mark Miller brought down his gavel, breaking it on the top of the boardroom table, but Riddle continued.
“You don’t look into anything,” Riddle told Miller.
“That’s enough, I have the floor now,” Miller said.
“Well, good for you,” Riddle responded.
The meeting deteriorated as Riddle continued shouting.
“… The negativity and the altering of records and the vengeance,” Riddle shouted.
Miller returned fire, telling Riddle he had had enough.
“So, why don’t you get back out-of-town where you live,” Miller shouted.
Riddle said Miller did not know what he was talking about and called him a “liar.”For the complete article see the 02-22-2013 issue.
