CLINTON — The Clinton Unit School District board is offering community members the opportunity to help name its new elementary school.
“This school came about because of the efforts of this community,” said Board President Buck Carter. “The whole community came together. We have to get their input.”
Residents may vote by ballot from this newspaper, online via the district website at www.cusd15.org or via social media at the Clinton Journal’s Facebook page.
Groundbreaking for the new school has been scheduled for 10 a.m. on Wednesday, March 20.
In other business, the board heard a presentation from Superintendent Jeff Holmes regarding ISAT scores.
“The State of Illinois used to say students who got 4 out of 10 answers correct on their ISAT questions, were meeting state standards,” said Holmes. “What the state has realized is that standard is way too low.”
With new expectations from the state, but using the same student scores, Clinton will suffer about a 30 percent decline in the number of students who meet or exceed state standards. For the complete article see the 02-22-2013 issue.
