CLINTON — While the Clinton School District Board of Education had hoped to announce the name of its new elementary school at its recent groundbreaking ceremony, it instead decided to table the decision.
Last month, the board asked for community input and put a survey on its website offering three possible names and an area to write in a suggestion. When the 997 votes were tallied Richard Green Elementary School lead the way with 396 votes.
Superintendent Dr. Jeffrey Holmes explained Richard Green was the county superintendent in DeWitt County and later a principal at Lincoln Elementary prior to his death.
The name Clinton Elementary School received 349 votes followed by Veteran’s Elementary and Clinton Intermediate with 168 votes each.
Board President Buck Carter said he had been following the votes daily and just recently saw a spike in the number of votes.
“All of the sudden it just went out of hand.” For the complete article see the 03-22-2013 issue.
