CLINTON — On Thursday, county board members approved Kennedy Hutson and Associates as the architects for the proposed new animal shelter. This will be the third firm the county has worked with on a shelter plan in recent years.
An animal shelter committee created by the board and led by board member Ron Savage made the recommendation. The architectural firm would collect a fee equaling 3 percent of the total project cost. Savage said in an earlier board meeting that the committee placed a $300,000 cap on the project.
The current board earlier dissolved a contract with Morton Buildings, with which the county contracted under the previous board. That board also had once worked on a shelter plan with a Forsyth-based architect.
“None of the architects we talked to gave us a set fee,” said committee member Terry Hoffman. “And, they gave us a range, but we won’t know that for sure until they do the plans for the site.”
“It was three for the architect, and then for the engineering, approximately 7-8 percent,” Hoffman told the board. For the complete article see the 04-09-2013 issue.
