Viability of Wapella board threatened by unresolved issues

Posted: Friday, Sep 20th, 2013

WAPELLA — The Wapella Village Board meeting came close to degrading into chaos on Tuesday after discussion of an executive session item turned into an argument over control.

After reconvening the open session of Tuesday’s meeting, village clerk Elizabeth Weikle asked to discuss the disciplinary action proposed against her by village board president Rich Karr. Karr claimed Weikle “interfered” with finance department business by rescheduling a meeting with the village auditor.

“I rescheduled because I had a class I already told you I had,” Weikle told Karr. Weikle said it was necessary for her to be present because the trustee in charge of finance Shay Burke could not answer all of the auditor’s questions. Weikle also said the auditor told her she would need to be at the meeting.
