Animal shelter project mired in indecision

CLINTON Whether its uncertainty about how much to spend, ambiguity about whether to continue with the architect or reconsider existing buildings or late debate about exactly what the county needs in an animal shelter, the process to build the new county facility seems to take one step forward and two backward.

As architect Kennedy Hutson made a return visit to the county board on Thursday, major changes the board asked him to make to his original animal shelter plan were simultaneously promoted as the best alternative and criticized as extravagant by the same board members. The board several weeks ago asked Hutson to redevelop his plan to reduce its square footage and its cost, which currently stands at a continuously fluctuating approximate total cost of $523,000.
