SULLIVAN — Senior Mitch Molzen scored 16 points, and Senior Andy Brown added 12 as the Sullivan Redskins (2-2 Okaw,6-8 overall) downed the Clinton Maroons Boy’s Basketball team,56-28, at Sullivan, Friday night.
Sullivan and Clinton both had trouble getting the ball in the hoop early, and at the end of the first quarter the score was only 4-1 in favor of Sullivan. Jacob Overton threw in a 3-point basket early in the second quarter, and the Maroons seem to pick up the intensity. The two teams went back and forth and Mason Dial would nail a 3-pointer to close the Sullivan lead to 14-12, but a three pointer and a bucket and a foul by Molzen gave the Redskins a, 20-12, halftime lead.
Clinton would get a 3-pointer by Austin Devore, and a put back by Colten Reeves and pulled to within 25-18 in the middle of the third quarter. Sullivan stepped on the gas. The Okaw rival Redskins capitalized on an excess of Maroon turnovers and got hot from the field and mounted a 24-6 run to lead 49-24 late in the fourth quarter. The Maroons were unable to get anything going and fell in their 4th conference loss. The Maroons go to 3-13 overall and will travel to Maroa- Forsyth Tuesday night.
Maroons Coach Chris Gibson commented after the game. “We beat ourselves…too many turnovers.”
