CLINTON — Clinton wrestler Kye Reczek was always the bridesmaid, never the bride. He achieved a great deal of regular season success throughout his wrestling career, but never reached the pinnacle of the state tournament since his wrestling days began as a sixth grader in 2006.
His dream was finally realized over the weekend, however, as Reczek became Clinton’s first state wrestling place winner since 2007 after a second-place finish.
After his success in Champaign, Reczek reflected on the beginnings of his wrestling career as an active second-grader that liked what he saw from the “wrestlers” on television. He said he heard about the Clinton Kids Club Wrestling team, an affiliate of the Illinois Kids Wrestling Federation, and thought it would fun. He did, however, take notice of the school’s rich wrestling tradition at an early age.
“Even when I was little, I looked up on the walls and saw the names of those that had wrestling success,” Reczek said. ”I made that my goal to someday be up there, too.”For the complete article see the 02-19-2013 issue.
