FORSYTH – Donald Watson “Don” Braden, 79, began his eternal life in the kingdom of Heaven at 5:40 a.m., Wednesday, October 03, 2012 at Hickory Point Christian Village, Forsyth, Ill.
Services celebrating Don’s life will be held at 1 p.m., on Tuesday, October 9, 2012 at Calvert Funeral Home, Maroa Chapel, 202 South Wood, Maroa, Illinois with Andy Glass officiating. Visitation will be prior to the service, beginning at 11 a.m. on Tuesday. Burial will be in Texas Township Cemetery, Clinton. The family has entrusted Calvert Funeral Homes, Maroa, IL with the arrangements.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Hickory Point Christian Village, 565 W. Marion Avenue, Forsyth, Illinois, 62535, or donor’s choice.
Don was born on September 12, 1933 in Decatur, Ill., the son of Newel A and Aileen M (Watson) Braden. He married Mary E Gardner on February 23, 1958 in Maroa, Illinois. Don was a maintenance engineer for Woodlawn Hospital in Chicago, Ill. While living in Chicago, he also drove their church bus picking up members for services and during the summer safely carrying children to and from vacation bible school. After relocating back to central Illinois, Don drove buses for his alma mater, Maroa Forsyth school district, bringing children to and from school as well as transporting students to and from their scholastic and athletic endeavors.
Don is survived by his wife, Mary, of Forsyth; sister Luann (Carol) Query, of Maroa; sister-in-law Alice Jordan, of Argenta; and many nieces, nephews, cousins, and treasured friends.
Greeting him in heaven are his parents, parents-in-law, brother, Richard and beloved aunts and uncles.
The family would like to extend heartfelt gratitude to the entire staff and community of Hickory Point Christian Village for their loving support and friendship; and to the skilled nursing staff for their compassionate and loving care of Don and Mary during the final stages of Don’s journey home.
