Howard F. Murphy

BLOOMINGTON — Howard F. Murphy, 84, of Bloomington, passed away at 4:13 a.m. on Wednesday, January 9, 2013 at his residence with his family by his side.

A Funeral service will be held at Calvert & Metzler Memorial Home, Bloomington on Saturday, January 12, 2013 at 11:30 a.m. with the Reverend Stan Motley officiating and Rev. Larry Colvin assisting. The Heyworth American Legion Post # 624 and U.S. Navy will be providing military honors for Howard. Visitation will be on Friday, January 11, 2013 at Calvert & Metzler Memorial Home from 4 p.m. until 7 p.m. Memorial Contributions may be made to the Community Cancer Center, Normal, Ill., or the Centennial Christian Church, Bloomington, Ill. in his honor.

He was born, July 10, 1928 in Heyworth, Ill., Son of Elijah Murphy and Elba Laverne Henson Murphy. Both of his parents precede him in death. He married Beverly Baum Murphy on July 18, 1975 in Bloomington, Ill., she survives.  Also surviving are his two daughters, Sandra Hamblen, Bloomington, Ill., and Katherine (Stan) Motley, Sandwich, Ill.; three grandchildren, Gina McFeeters, Lane, Ill.,  Joshua (Christine) Motley, Sandwich, Ill., and Lucas (Charissa) Motley, Kansas City, Mo.; four great- grandchildren,  Erica & Mikayla McFeeters, and Keira & Kyla Motley; one great- great- grandson, Hayden Hasty; one brother, Les (Delores) Murphy, South Roxana, Ill.. brothers, Bill and Wally Murphy, and son-in-law, Rick Hamblen preceded him in death.

Howard honorably served in the U.S. Navy from August 14, 1945 until August 16, 1946. During his enlistment time he served aboard the USS Egeria, and achieved the enlisted rank of Seaman First Class.

Howard was a lifetime member of the Heyworth, Illinois American Legion post # 624 and was the director of the kitchen for fifteen years. He also was a member of the Centennial Christian Church of Bloomington, Ill..  Howard retired in 1993 from Revere Copper & Brass/Olin Fabrication in Clinton, Ill. after 42 loyal years of faithful and dedicated service to the company as the Chief Estimating Engineer.
