CLINTON — Shirley Louise Veirs, 82, of Clinton, Ill., passed away peacefully on April 4, 2013, in her home, surrounded by family.
Shirley was born August 17, 1930, in Champaign, Ill., to Pauline and Ivan Douglas. She married John Veirs on September 15, 1951. They celebrated their 61st anniversary in 2012.
She is survived by her husband; and children: Daniel (Rebecca) of Taos, N.M.; Thomas of Peoria, Ill.; Christine (Glen) Johnson of Columbus, Ohio; and Nancy (Michael) Schulz of Bloomington, Ill. Also surviving are six grandchildren: Crystal, John, Nick (Avril), Nathan, Dustin (Shanell), and Christian; and one great grandson, Caleb.
Shirley graduated as an RN from St. Luke’s Hospital, in Chicago, and then moved with John to Clinton to raise her family. She was involved with her church, the hospital auxiliary, Welfare League, the Apple & Pork/Museum Association, and the Weldon Springs Foundation.
She got great pleasure from spending time with friends, traveling, her gardens, and her dogs. A devoted wife and mother, her greatest pride and joys came from her children and grandchildren. She will be loved and missed forever.
