CLINTON — Michael D. Schriber, Sr, 75, of Clinton, Ill., passed from this earth at 6:20 PM, July 31, 2013 while at home surrounded by his family. Graveside services will be held at 11 a.m., Monday, August 5, 2013 at Long Point Cemetery, Wapella, Ill., with military honors with Brother Richard Owens officiating. Visitation will be private. The family has entrusted Calvert Funeral Home, Clinton, Ill. with arrangements. Memorials may be directed to Illiana VA Health Care System, Danville, Ill..
Michael Schriber, Sr. was born on November 15, 1937 in St. Louis, Mo. to his parents, Dorothy Faries and Sol Schriber. As an infant Mike and his family moved to Lincoln, Ill., where he spent his childhood. When he was 17, he joined the Army and went to the DMZ, in Korea. After his service he returned to Lincoln where he met Shirley Day, a perky waitress at the Maid Rite. They married on August 24, 1959. She passed away on May 28, 2013. Mike had various jobs but was mainly a Coal Miner. In 1986, due to health reasons, he retired from the mine and moved to Clinton to be closer to family. He started working at the DeWitt County Sheriff’s Office as a corrections officer in 1987. He retired from there in 2001. Mike loved woodworking and many of his pieces are still in use today.
He is survived by his mother-in-law, Leona Fern Day, Clinton, Ill.; children, Carolyn (Roy) Trout, Clinton, Ill., Mike Schriber, Jr., Clinton, Ill., Ashley Spriggs, Clinton, Ill.; two great- grandchildren, Abbygail and Vance; brothers, Ronnie (Nancy) Schriber, Lincoln, Ill., Gilbert (Kathy) Schriber, Lincoln, Ill.. He was preceded in death by his wife, Shirley, his parents, two brothers Harold and Davey, and one daughter Christy.
