CLINTON — Barbara Joan Spurling, 74, of Clinton, Ill., passed away at 10:05 p.m. on August 4, 2013 at her family residence.
A visitation will be held from 1-2 p.m. on Thursday at Calvert Funeral Home, Clinton. Services will be held at 2 p.m. on Thursday at Calvert’s, J. Kent Hickerson officiating. Interment will be at Pleasant Valley Cemetery, Kenney, Ill.
Memorials may be made to the Barbara Joan Spurling memorial fund.
Barbara was born on April 3, 1939 in Gila, Ill., daughter of Robert D. Byrne and Emma Elizabeth (Britton) Byrne. She married Linden “Red” Spurling on December 2, 1961 in Wapella, Ill. He survives.
Also surviving are children Allan (Brenda) Woodward, Lincoln, Ill.; Sheila (Marvin) Long, Clinton, Ill.; Kim (Mark) Creed, Paige, Texas; Richard Spurling, Clinton, Ill.; Amber Spurling, Clinton, Ill.; Allora Spurling, Clinton, Ill.; a grandson, whom she loved and raised as her own Chris Spurling, Peoria, Ill; one half- brother Oliver Quick, Newton, Ill; two step- brothers Ronnie Pelfrey, Mason, Ohio, and Omer Pelfrey, Tampa, Fla.; 25 grandchildren and 31 great- grandchildren.
Her parents and her grandmother who raised her preceded her in death.
She was a U.S. Army veteran. Barbara enjoyed fishing, camping and traveling. Her life was devoted to her children and her grandchildren.
