BRIDGEPORT, Ill. — Edith M. Wells, 87, of Bridgeport, passed away Tuesday, June 3, 2014, at Lawrence County Memorial Hospital, in Lawrenceville. She was born April 22, 1927, in LeRoy, Ill., the daughter of Herschel and Ethel (Petty) Messenger. She married Ray Wells on April 8, 1951, and he preceded her in death on August 30, 1992.
Edith was a member of Sumner United Methodist Church. She worked at Sumner Savings and Loan for several years and then worked for Rich-Law Service Company until her retirement. Edith was a volunteer for Sign of the Kingdom-West and was active with the Bridgeport Senior Citizens.
Survivors include two daughters: Tena (David) Seed of Bridgeport, Ill. and Treva (Darrell) Howard of Clinton, Ill.; one sister Lucille Fiscus of St. Joseph, Ill.; two brothers Kenneth Messenger of Oklahoma City, Okla. and Wendall “Sherm” Messenger of Olney, Ill.; four grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.
Preceding Edith in death were her parents and her husband, Ray.
Funeral services will be 1:30 p.m. Saturday at Sivert-Macey & Steffey Funeral Home in Sumner, Illinois.
Visitation will be 11 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. Saturday at the funeral home.
Burial will be in Crest Haven Memorial Park Cemetery.
