CLINTON — The city council voted this week to purchase five new Taser stun guns for use by the police department. The new Tasers will replace models currently in use that the manufacturer plans to phase out.
Clinton police currently carry X-26 model Tasers, which the department has used since 2006. The X-26 Tasers employ a single, red light beam used for aiming. They fire a pair of dart-like electrodes carrying high DC voltage that cause temporary incapacitation. Law enforcement uses the guns to subdue subjects when lethal force is not called for. To fire a second time, officer must switch out the cartridge used for firing.
A model is also manufactured for use by the U.S. military. For the complete article see the 09-21-2012 issue.
