It was during his tenure at the Clinton
Journal more than a decade ago that author
Joseph Spencer discovered his passion for writing.
A native of Clinton, Joe graduated from Clinton High School in 1996 and then headed to Southern Illinois University at Carbondale where he earned a degree in radio and television communications. His first job after college was selling advertising for a Peoria television station. While there, he learned of an opening for a sports editor at his hometown newspaper—the Clinton Journal.
For three years, the son of Diane Andrews and Bob Andrews wrote about local athletes and sporting events until the Peoria Journal Star recognized his talent and hired him away. From there, Joe went on to work for newspapers in Burlington, Iowa and Grand Junction, Colorado. Deciding he wanted to be closer to home, he returned to central Illinois in a sport copyediting position with the Decatur Herald and Review a few years later.
Four years ago, Joe opted out of the newspaper industry when he accepted a position as a supervisor of the 9-1-1 Center in Peoria. For the complete article see the 10-30-2012 issue.
