TOLONO — Despite the same two teams taking a court for the second time in less than a week, the Clinton Lady Maroons would not be denied another victory against the St. Teresa Lady Bulldogs at the Okaw Valley Conference Tournament in Tolono on Saturday. Clinton used a strong second and third quarter to earn the 68-58 victory.
After a long delay in the game’s start time due to the previous game’s three-overtime finish, both Clinton and St. Teresa played on even keel for the first quarter. The Lady Maroons did manage to zone-in defensively, but St. Teresa climbed back into the game to tie the score at 14-14 with less than a minute remaining.
Thanks to a three-pointer by sophomore Haley Ginger in the final seconds of the frame, Clinton held a 17-14 lead heading into the second quarter.
Clinton’s offense continued to find held from distance, scorching the Lady Bulldogs for 4 three-pointers in the second en route to a 35-22 halftime lead.
“We shot the ball really well, but what I liked even more was our getting the ball inside first and then making the extra pass to get it outside for a good look,” Clinton head coach Josh Williams said.
