CLINTON — Menno H. “Heinie” Stein, 88, passed away at 3:17 p.m. on January 31, 2013 at his family residence.
There will not be a visitation. Private services will be held on Saturday, February 9 at Calvert Funeral Home, Clinton, Stephanie Soon, OSF Hospice chaplain officiating. Interment will be at Memorial Park Cemetery, Clinton, with military honors.

Menno was born on October 27, 1924 in Ashkum, Ill., son of Carl Stein and Maggie Peters. He married Beck Mitchell. She passed away on November 27, 1978. He later married Beverly Lane Lager on August 15, 1981 in Decatur, Ill. She passed away on May 9, 2005.
Survivors include children Sue (David) Burt, Flora, Ill.; Jan (John Martin) Schumacher, Forsyth, Ill.; Jonnell Herron, Carterville, Ill.; Pam (Mark) Lane, Clinton; grandson Menno H. Stein II, Boulder, Colo.; brother Lewis Stein, Watseka, Ill.; seven grandchildren, three great- grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.
His parents, one brother and three sisters preceded him in death.
Menno was a U.S. Army veteran of WWII, during which he received the Purple Heart in Hiroshima, Japan. He owned and operated Dairy Queens and car washes, and he was also a farmer. He worked for Dairy Queen International.
