Clinton girls’ track and field set records at Charleston

Posted: Tuesday, Mar 12th, 2013

CHARESTON — The Charleston Invitational, held at Eastern Illinois University, is only the second meet for the Lady Maroons track team, but the team has wasted no time making its mark on the 2013 season.

This meet finished with four indoor school records being broken, several personal records by the athletes and team morale soaring, according to the coaches. The coaching staff atributes the early success largely to the girls’ off-season motivation and early start date this year for the team practices.

Breaking her own indoor record in the 55 dash was sophomore Becca Anderson. She placed 4th overall with a time of 7.57 seconds. Joining Anderson for the 4x200m relay was Erin West, Morgan Witzke, and Kaitlin Hayden, running a record time of 1:50.94 seconds, beating their previous record by almost two seconds this meet.
