CLINTON — Area boat shop owner Jeff Gibbs returned to the county board on Thursday to repeat his criticism against Clinton marina management, saying he felt his reputation had been questioned.
Gibbs addressed the board in March, listing complaints of mismanagement of the marina by its current managers. Among his complaints were dilapidated docks, an absence of a restaurant, required under the contract, and a general lack of cleanliness and customer service. Gibbs repeated those complaints Thursday and again charged marina managers with giving preferential treatment to some boaters in the leasing of boat slips, portions of dock rented by boat owners to park their boats at the marina.
“I understand there is an effort to make this about me and undermine my credibility,” Gibbs said. He did not give details. Gibbs said he could produce hundreds of statements from his customers vouching for his credibility.
“This is not about me,” Gibbs told county board members. “It is about a lack of oversight, mismanagement of a county-owned facility and the breach of a contract that has to be addressed.”
Gibbs said he had merely gone public with his complaints about the marina.
“All I’ve done is tell it like it is in the public forum, above board and up front with evidence to support it,” Gibbs said. “Unfortunately, some people don’t want to hear the facts, particularly those responsible.”For the complete article see the 04-12-2013 issue.
