CLINTON – Each team attending Saturday’s Clinton Invitational Softball Tournament were guaranteed two games, which worked out well for the host Lady Maroons who split their games, finishing with a key victory to springboard the squad into a tough stretch of conference games this week.
Clinton opened against an aggressive Fieldcrest team, which took advantage of an ailing Clinton pitching staff. Clinton’s Bailey Walker sustained a deep bruise on her pitching hand in a game last week, but took the mound to test the injury.
The effort, however, was not what head coach Emily Starkey would have hoped. Walker gave up four earned runs on three hits, struck out three and walked five. For the complete article see the 04-23-2013 issue.
