CLINTON — Clinton Junior High teacher Becky Mehrkens had to show off the results Friday of her school’s part in a local food drive. And the food items that awaited delivery in one of the school’s maintenance rooms were just a portion of what students collected during April.
“It’s amazing,” Mehrkens said about how much her school raised. Students collected some 1,300 items for the food drive, about 1,000 items coming from 6th grade students. Other Clinton schools also participated in the food drive “Feeding Frenzy,” coordinated by Round Again Sports.
Each Wednesday and Friday during April, students were asked to bring in items to donate to the food drive. The pallet-sized box containing items collected, shown in the photo, was the final collection from junior high students.
Six of Mehrken’s students were responsible for coordinating the junior high’s part of the food drive.
“I knew they would do a good job,” Mehrken’s said. For the complete article see the 04-30-2013 issue.
