CLINTON — One local registered sex offender was arrested and the search for a second resulted from a police operation conducted on Thursday.
Donald G. Brewer, 55, of Weldon, was arrested by DeWitt County Sheriff’s deputies for violation of sex offender registration, failure to register a change of address, a Class 4 felony.
An investigation has also been initiated by the U.S. Marshals Service under the Adam Walsh Act to locate Joshua S. Sympson, 33. Investigators uncovered evidence that Sympson may have fled Illinois.
Sympson’s last known address was Clinton. Sympson is currently wanted on a failure to appear warrant in DeWitt County in addition to charges pending for violation of the Sex Offender Registration Act.
Brewer’s arrest and the search for Sympson were part of a multi-agency operation, Operation DeWitt County Compliance 2013. DeWitt County Sheriff’s Office, Clinton Police Department, Illinois State Police, DeWitt County Probation Office and U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement participated in the U.S. Marshals Service-led operation.
A total of 40 registered sex offenders were targeted, resulting in 38 address verifications, one follow-up investigation and one arrest.
