WELDON — Oliver Elkanah Walters, 101, of Weldon, Ill., passed away at 4:50 p.m. on August 30, 2013 at LeRoy Manor.
A visitation will be held from 5-7 p.m. on Tuesday, September 3, at Calvert Funeral Home, Clinton. Services will be held at 11 a.m. on Wednesday at Calvert’s, Rev. C. Don Ferrill officiating.
Memorials may be made to the Weldon United Methodist Church.
Oliver was born on July 15, 1912 in Solomon, Ill. son of Lawrence Walters and Artie Bracken. He married Ulavon Swigert on August 8, 1934 in Weldon. She passed away on April 6, 2012
Survivors include three daughters Linda Lou Green, Pontiac, Ill.; Loretta Temples, Oakland, Ill., currently residing at LeRoy Manor, and Lucy (Larry) Troutman, Lawrenceville, Calif; and six grandchildren Todd Temples, Mike Temples, Lynette Senter, David Senter, Nicholas Walters and Bryce Walters; and six great- grandchildren.
His parents, one son Larry Walters, one sister Phyllis Reynolds, of Lincoln, and one brother Dean Walters, of Weldon, preceded him in death.
Oliver was a farmer. He also was a welder and machinist, and he had a land improvement business. He was very hard working and was considered a progressive farmer and was community oriented. Oliver was an airplane pilot, purchasing his first airplane in 1946, and he was a member of the Flying Farmers.
